Abstract

1,207,251. Lighting control circuits; boosting by transformers. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. 3 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967],No. 21154/68. Heading H2H. Device for smoothing and boosting a voltage supplied by way of a phase-controlled unit includes an autotransformer constructed to have a leakage field. The device forms part of a lighting intensity control arrangement. In the circuit described, an autotransformer 6 boosts the voltage from coupled thyristors 2, 3, and also attenuates harmonies introduced into the supply by the thyristors in that a limb 9 and air-gap 10 provide a shunt for the flux of the transformer which acts as a series inductance in the output circuit. An R-C circuit is also connected across the transformer secondary so that appreciable current flows when no output is being drawn. The R-C circuit is tuned with the secondary inductance to the supply frequency.
