Abstract

1,095,283. Discharge lamp circuits. ADVANCE ELECTRONICS Ltd. July 17, 1964 [May 27, 1963], No. 21038/63. Heading H2H. A mercury vapour discharge lamp is connected in series with a capacitor 6 across taps on a leakage transformer 1-4 which is arranged so that the lowest voltage tap gives a condition nearest to resonance hence the no-load voltage is not reduced in proportion to the tapping voltage. The secondary winding 3 operates in a condition of saturation and a magnetic shunt 4 divides it from the primary winding. A capacitor 12 avoids an open circuit condition for the lamp when changing tappings, which capacitor also resonates during starting. Circuit values for the capacitors are given in the Specification.
