A constant voltage transformer comprises a primary winding 10; a secondary winding 11 shunted by a capacitor 13 and having output terminals, 14, 17; a magnetic core 12 which couples windings 10, 11 and which is unsaturated in operation and a further winding 18 which is associated with a separate saturable core 19 and which is connected to terminal 17 and to a tap 15 on winding 11.
