Abstract
1,002,535. Magnetic amplifiers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 22, 1961 [Dec. 13, 1960], No. 42836/60. Heading H3B. An arrangement for producing a constantamplitude pulse during each half-cycle from an A.C. source 4, Fig. 1, comprises a saturable reactor 1 having its load winding or windings 3 and the primary winding of a transformer 6, connected in series across the source, the core of the transformer being saturated by the current flow resulting from the saturation of the core 1. A ballast resistor 5 is provided to limit the current through the transformer primary. The arrangement uses an auto selfexcited reactor and is applied to the control of the point of conductivity of a controlled semi-conductor rectifier 7, an additional rectifier 10 being connected in the control electrode circuit to prevent damage by reverse voltages. The transformer 6 may have a number of secondary windings.
