Abstract

1,083,946. Triggering thyristors. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 19, 1965 [July 18, 1964], No. 30698/65. Heading H3T. A circuit for simultaneous triggering of a number of thyristors includes two transformers for each thyristor, one of which supplies a steepfronted pulse to initiate conduction and the other of which supplies a pulse of sufficient amplitude and duration to provide the necessary triggering energy. In Fig. 3 thyristors 2, 3, 4 are fired by steep-fronted pulses through small transformers 8, 9, 10 having low leakage inductance, whose primaries are supplied through (optional) capacitors 43, 44, 45. The blocking diodes 32, 34, 36 are preferably fast-acting. The main triggering energy is supplied through large transformers 11, 12, 13. Additional windings are fed with a separate control voltage through resistors 40, 41, 42 to magnetize the cores of the transformers in the opposite sense. The transformers are triggered by an auxiliary thyristor 38 with a capacitor quenching circuit (not shown). A transistor pulse-amplifier (Fig. 2, not shown) may be included between the transformers and the thyristors 2, 3, 4. This comprises an emitter-coupled monostable circuit (13, 14) triggered by the transformer 8 and followed by an amplifying stage (23). The main triggering pulse is supplied through a full-wave rectifier (26, 27) and smoothing capacitor (28).
