Abstract

1,071,667. Thyristor switching circuits. LANCASHIRE DYNAMO ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS Ltd. Jan. 29, 1965 [Oct. 29, 1963; Feb. 5, 1964], Nos. 42640/63 and 4927/64. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] A load 1 is connected to either of two supply terminals by thyristors TH 1' TH 2 controlled by a commutating circuit L 2 , L 2 , C 2 . The saturable transformer T 1 has its primary in series with the commutating capacitor C 2 and its secondary connected through a diode bridge rectifier D 3 , D 4 , D 5' D 6 to the supply so that some of the energy absorbed in the commutating circuit is returned to the supply. The saturable choke L 1 in series with the load 1 limits the current in a thyristor which has just been fired during the interval when that thyristor would carry both the load current and the commutating current. The load current may be A.C. (if the two thyristors conduct for equal periods) or D.C. (if one thyristor conducts for a greater period than the other, so that the circuit becomes a D.C. chopper). An alternative connection of transformer T 1 and choke L 1 is disclosed (Fig. 3, not shown).
