Abstract
549,318. Control of D.C. motors. GORDON, H. H. (Allmanna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget). July 21, 1941, No. 9182. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 23, 1942.] [Class 38 (iii)] Varying field. To limit the armature current of a D.C. motor 1 an inductance 12 and auxiliary A.C. source are connected in series with a shunt field winding 2 of the motor by means of a rectifier bridge 13 and the armature current is caused directly or indirectly to saturate the inductance whereby the field is strengthened. Saturable inductances 6, 12 having a self exciting winding -s 4, 10 may be arranged in cascade, auxiliary windings 5, 11 on each opposing the two saturating windings to determine the characteristic of operation. In a modification, Fig. 2, the rectified potential across an inductance 26 fed with substantially constant current through a larger inductance 28 is used to saturate the field circuit inductance 12. To avoid passing the normal field current through the self exciting winding 10 of the inductance 12 an auxiliary rectifier with or without a transformer may be used.
