Abstract

943,769. Rectifying. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Oct. 8, 1962 [Oct. 7, 1961], No. 37986/62. Heading H2F. Reverse parallel connected controlled rectifiers 1, 2 (semi-conductor or mercury arc rectifiers, or thyratrons) supplying a load 4 with direct current of one polarity or the other from an alternating source 3 are controlled through individual saturable transformers having bias windings 12, 22 series connected to a D.C. supply, and the senses of the biases and the primary signals, which are continuously applied to both transformers, are such that in one transformer the signals produce a magnetizing force in the sense in which the transformer is already saturated, and in the other the signals reverse the flux, so producing a pulse in the secondary winding and firing the corresponding rectifier. Two or more transformers having cores with different coercivities and receiving phase-displaced primary signals may control each rectifier. As these will respond to different values of bias current, the load current may be varied in steps to follow the bias current in magnitude and sense (Figs. 5, 6, 7, not shown).
