Abstract

986,913. Tap changing transformers. BRENTFORD TRANSFORMERS Ltd. Oct. 24, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], Heading H2H. A system for regulating a voltage between two values as for example between the taps C 1 -C 6 on a transformer winding TT comprises two transformers P 1 , P 2 , connected in series across adjacent taps, and variable static variable impedance devices I I I 2 such as transductors or silicon controlled rectifiers connected across each secondary winding and controlled in opposite senses so that when one secondary winding is short circuited, the other is open circuited. To reduce the impedance range of the impedance devices and to allow for the impedance of the primary windings a booster arrangement T 3 , T 4 may be incorporated. A single load may be connected across terminals L 1 , N 1 , but a second load having its voltage varying in the opposite sense may be connected across terminals L1 1 , L. In arrangements using controlled rectifiers either reverse parallel pairs or an uncontrolled rectifier bridge with a controlled rectifier across the diagonal may be connected across the secondary winding with a parallel resistor in either case to allow load current to flow at non-conduction periods.
