Abstract
1,053,885. Switching systems for D.C. loads. LE MATERIEL ELECTRIQUE S.W. March 16, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 11086/64. Heading H2H. [Also in Division H3] A magnetic amplifier is arranged to produce pulses of opposite polarity to respectively switch on and off a controlled rectifier. The magnetic amplifier shown comprises two windings 7, 8 on saturable cores 5, 6 and connected through rectifiers 14, 15 to load 17 so that the current from one winding is normally equal and opposite to that of the other and no current flows in the load. The bias resistor 13 is selected so that saturation normally occurs at the 90-degree phase point. However, if a control current is supplied to windings 8 one core will saturate earlier and one later so that pulses will be produced across the load, the polarity depending upon the sense of the control current. The pulses are applied to a gate controlled rectifier 2 arranged so that positive pulses will turn it on whereby load 24 is energized and negative pulse will turn it off. Bias for the rectifier is provided by circuit 25, 26, R, C, and a capacitor 37 by-passes unwanted high frequency currents. The rectifier is isolated from supply line interference by a filter LC.
