Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a fast response and good output waveform by changing the magnetic saturation state of at least part of the second cote section, thereby shunting the magnetic flux generated by the first series winding and the common winding from the main magneitc flux loop path a magnetic shunt. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic control type voltage regulator 10 is provided with a first wound core 12 comprising a first core section 12a, a second core section 12b and a magnetic shunt 14. On the first core section 12a of the first wound core 12, a first series winding 16 and a common winding 18 are wound, while a second series winding 20 is wound on the second core section 12b. The first series winding 16 is connected between a high-voltage terminal U and a middle-voltage terminal u, and the common winding 18 is connected in series to the first series winding 16 with the same polarity. The lower end part of the common winding 18 is connected to a first neutral point V1. The second series winding 20 is connected between the lower end part of the common winding 18 and a second neutral point V2 with the polarity opposite to the first series winding 16. There are provided a second wound core 22 acting as a saturable core to change the magnetic saturation state of at least part of the second core section 12b for controlling the magnetic shunt 14, and a control winding 24. The magnetic shunt consists of a core of a C-like cross section in which multiple silicon steel plates. The groove 14a of the magnetic shunt 14 is placed so as to magnetically connect to a center leg 26. The magnetic shunt 14 functions to shunt part of the magnetic flux of the main magnetic loop path to the outer legs 28, 30 through a gap constituting a high reluctance thereby to regulate the output voltage, attenuate higher harmonics, and reduce the waveform distortion of the output voltage.
