Abstract
751,381. Supply systems depending on the use of transformers. CHILDS, P. A. Feb. 10, 1955 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 4189/54. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). A load 7 on a mobile body, such as a lift cage is energized when the body is in a predetermined position by a transformer comprising a stationary primary unit 2, 4 located adjacent the predetermined position and connected to the mains 1, and a tuned secondary unit 3, 5 which is carried by the mobile body and is connected to the load. Tuning is effected by a capacitor 8 in series, or shunt, with the secondary winding 5. A power factor correction condenser 9 may be connected to the primary unit. The cores 2, 3 of the two units are preferably at least twenty times as long as the spacing 6 between them when in their operative position. The primary winding 4 is preferably such that the magnetizing current drawn from the mains when the secondary unit is remote therefrom is of the same order of magnitude as the load current drawn when .the secondary unit is adjacent the primary unit. The tuning condenser 8 may be connected across different tappings of the winding 5 from the load 7.
