683,621. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FRIEDLANDER, E. S. Oct. 13, 1950 [Oct. 14, 1949], No. 26462/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (ii). An electric transformer having primary and secondary windings arranged on a limb of the transformer core, has an additional winding arranged to be connected to form a part of a circuit comprising two windings with equal numbers of turns both arranged to embrace the main magnetic flux in the transformer limb and to be connected in parallel as regards this main flux but to be connected in series as regards the leakage flux between the primary and secondary windings, the circuit being comprised of the additional winding and either the primary or secondary winding or a further additional winding, and having a high resistance compared with the resistance of the primary and secondary windings, so as to form a damping circuit to reduce or prevent oscillation due to the leakage flux. The additional windings are arranged so as to embrace the transformer leakage flux. A frequency responsive element, such as a capacitor, may be included in the damping circuit so as to reduce the circulating currents therein at the supply frequency. A resistance may also be placed in the damping circuit.
