Abstract

616,428. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 28, 1946, No. 2720. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1945. [Class 38 (ii)] In a static constant voltage transformer wherein a magnetic shunt is provided between primary and secondary windings and a capacity is coupled to the secondary winding and wherein a voltage proportional to and in phase with the leakage reactance voltage is added to the secondary voltage saturation of that portion of the core associated with the secondary winding is obtained by restricting the crosssection of the core at a number of places. In Fig. 1 a gapped magnetic shunt 2 carrying the compensating winding 6 is provided between primary winding 4 and secondary winding 5 on the core, which has, in the path of the secondary flux, normally saturated restrictions 7. A capacitor 8, Fig. 2, is connected across winding 5 (or another winding closely coupled thereto) and tuned to resonance when the output circuit is open. The winding 6 is connected, in series with a part of winding 5 or with a winding closely coupled with winding 5, across the output terminals.
