Abstract
971,681. Transformers. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. March 14, 1963 [March 16, 1962], No. 10134/63. Heading H1T. A single-phase welding transformer with a wound strip core has flux leakage members joining two opposite limbs and separating the primary and secondary windings, each member carrying a D.C. excitation winding to produce a closed D.C. flux in the complete leakage circuit, the windings being so distributed that any alternating voltages induced in them cancel out. Two U-shaped leakage paths U (Fig. 1) preferably of wound strip and each having a winding " e " may abut on either side the transformer core T. A complete magnetic circuit for D.C. flux may be formed on each side of the core T by splitting each of the core pieces U into two U-shaped core pieces U1 and U2 (Fig. 3, not shown). Air gaps may be provided between the leakage cores and core T, and a short-circuited damping winding on the leakage path may be used to reduce the D.C. power necessary for large welding currents, while a winding carrying the welding current may be connected in series opposition to the secondary.
