Abstract

851,241. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1959 [March 12, 1958], No. 7948/58. Class 38 (2). A rectangular transformer core is made from L-shaped silicon steel strips 6 (Fig. 1) butted together with or without air-gaps at 7 and arranged in reversely disposed pockets as shown. The laminations 6 are secured by riveting through, or otherwise securing them, at the yokes 3, 4. An adjustable shunt member 5 (Fig. 3) of mild steel strips is provided between primary coils 9, 10 and secondary coils 11, 12 and the leakage reactance can be adjusted after assembly of the transformer by moving member 5, or the secondary coils, relatively to the primary coils. Both the primary and the secondary coils can be connected in series or parallel or used independently or they can be arranged in series in auto-transformer connection. The L- shaped laminations may have the inside length of the short side equal to the width of the long side so that they can be cut in pairs from rectangular strips without waste.
