[Class 38 (ii)] The laminations of a core for a transformer, choke, &c. with a variable air-gap are secured together along one edge only; along the other edge they are held by or between guiding members, between which they can slide while being pressed against them by their own elasticty, so as to diminish hum. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the guiding member is shown as a channel member f into which the laminations b fit, being held together along the other edge by bolts s. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which each of two laminated portions serves as a guide for the other. one portion b being held between plates p and recessed to receive projections on the other portion f.
