Abstract
857,915. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1959 [March 12, 1958], No. 7946/58. Class 38 (2). A transformer core has the silicon steel laminations of end yokes 3, 4 and of movable shunt member 5 arranged perpendicularly to the laminations of legs 1 and 2 and the end yokes are held in place by straps 7 and blocks 8, 9. The movable shunt member 5 separates primary and secondary windings on each leg and is a loose fit to provide air gaps. The primary and secondary windings may be connected in series or parallel or each may be independent or they may be connected to form an auto-transformer. The leakage reactance may be set by movement of the secondary coils and/ or of member 5. The packets of yoke laminations may be held together by rivets 6 or otherwise and the yoke thickness may be varied by adding laminations.
