Abstract

742,494. Transformers. HOWE, H. May 6, 1953, No. 12583/53. Addition to 742,487. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXIX] In a transformer of the kind forming the subject of Specification 742,487 the subsidiary parts of each main core are energized by main primary windings in opposite directions, at least one pair of the subsidiary parts being energized by exciting windings in the same direction. Two main cores F, G are each divided into two parts having series-connected primary windings P1, P2 and P3, P4 one on each part, and biasing windings H1, H3 on the main cores. When one or other of windings H1, H3 is energized, the primary winding pairs P3, P4 or P1, P2 are respectively operative on an unsaturated main core; thereby inducing voltage in a secondary winding (not shown) on that core. The saturating fluxes of the control windings induce equal and opposite voltages in the members of each pair of primary windings, P1, P2 and P3, P4. The core parts may lie side-by-side in the same plane, Fig. 1, in parallel planes, Fig. 3 (not shown) or arranged concentrically, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown). These core parts may be rectangular or circular, laminated or of wound strip. The windings may be connected and used in the various ways described in the parent Specification.
