Abstract

1,015,044. Transformers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 25, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 20832/63. Heading H1T. A stray-field transformer has a core with one or more air gaps between two main stacks of laminations or between two parts of a single main stack, the air gap being bridged on at least one side by a further stack of laminations. The core may be made of U-type laminations having different lengths of arms 3, 4 and 6, 7 (Fig. 1) and cut, without waste, from rectangular sheets. Alternatively two sets of different, but symmetrical, U-shaped laminations may be used (Fig. 4, not shown). The air gaps may be bridged by rectangular strip laminations with their surfaces contacting either the surfaces or the edges of the laminations in the main stacks (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown). The core may be of shell-type with air gaps in all limbs or between the centre limb and a yoke (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). An adjustable magnetic shunt 9 may be provided between the primary windings P and the secondary windings S (Fig. 9, not shown). Fluorescent lamp circuits incorporating the transformer are described and constructional details of the transformer and circuit elements are given.
