Abstract

1325938 Transformers FERRANTI Ltd 12 June 1972 [19 June 1971] 28845/71 Heading HIT [Also in Division H2] In a polyphase transformer supplying a low ripple D.C. system and having a three phase (star or delta) primary winding 12A, 12B, 12C, a star connected secondary 16A, 16B, 16C and a delta connected secondary 13A, 13B, and 13C. The voltage output of one of the secondaries is balanced with that of the other secondary by means for affecting the magnetic coupling between each primary winding and one only of its two associated secondary windings. This means may comprise magnetic members (20A, 20B, 20C, Fig. 2, not shown) disposed between each primary winding 12A, 12B, 12C and a respective secondary winding, 16A, 16B or 16C. These magnetic shunts may be of ferrite or of grainoriented steel laminations. They may be movable or fixed in which case the number of laminations necessary is determined by tests prior to manufacture.
