Abstract

1,271,635. Transformer systems. FERRANTI Ltd. 22 Dec., 1970 [8 Jan., 1970], No. 901/70. Heading H2H. [Also in Division H1] A high voltage transformer with a two or more limb ferromagnetic core 10 has (a) a low voltage primary winding 13, 13<SP>1</SP> wound in parallel on two limbs so that the flux produced by each winding assists the flux produced by the other, (b) a high voltage secondary winding 14 wound over the low voltage primary on only one limb and (c) two further windings 15, 15<SP>1</SP> intended for cascade connection connected in parallel and in phase with one another, one wound on each limb around the respective high and low voltage windings. When several such transformers are connected in cascade one end of the high voltage winding is connected to the earthed tank of the first transformer and the other end to the tank of the second transformer. One end of the "cascade" winding is connected to the low voltage end of the second transformer. Further transformers can be connected in a similar manner. This method of winding is said to reduce the reactance between the primary and "cascade" windings.
