Abstract
857,141. Transformers. HOPPERMANN, O. L. Jan. 4, 1957 [Jan. 6, 1956], No. 454/57. Class 38 (2). In a variable transformer capable of providing a given range of output voltages when provided with different input voltages, an inner winding comprises a number p of winding sections la, lb, lc, each having a number of turns n and an outer winding 2 which is bared so that it may be contacted by a movable roller 4, the outer winding comprising a part 14 with n or n ¸ p turns and an additional part 16. As shown, 3 inner windings of n/3 turns each are seriesconnected and may be fed with 110 v., or the outer section 14 may be included in this series circuit and a 220 v. supply utilized; in either case a voltage of 65-220 v. is obtainable by the roller. In alternative arrangements the windings 1a, 1b, 1c may be in parallel, and windings are provided to permit the use of input voltage supplies of 380 v., 440 v. and 480 v. An arrangement of rollers contacting the outer winding 2 is provided to allow for variations in the nominal supply voltages.
