A moving coil voltage regulator has the input winding 15 and a short-circuited winding 16 wound on the inner leg of a four-limbed laminated core, an output winding 17 coaxial with winding 15 and winding 16 being movable along the inner leg to obtain a variable output. This arrangement enables the parts of the three outer legs 9, 10 and 11 adjacent short-circuited winding 16, as well as part of the inner leg and yokes 13 and 14 to be made of reduced crosssection to save weight.
