Abstract
638,984. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 22, 1946, No. 31378. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1945. [Class 38 (ii)] A transformer for use in a potential derivation device comprising a capacitance potentiometer 2, 3 has means whereby the reactance of the transformer may be adjusted at constant voltage ratio and the voltage ratio adjusted at constant reactance. The serially connected secondary windings 6, 7 are respectively closely and loosely coupled to the primary winding 5, the loose coupling being effected by magnetic shunts, and, in order that the transformer reactance may be tuned to that of the potentiometer, thereby reducing the regulation of the device to a minimum, coarse and fine tapchanging switches 9, 10 having rotatory movements are provided. To adjust the voltage at the load 8, coarse and fine tap-changing switches 11, 12 having translatory movements are provided. In a modification, the seriallyconnected windings 6, 7 together with the tapchanging switches 9, 10 are on the primary side of the transformer. Three arrangements of the elements of the transformer are described in the Specification.
