Systems depending on the use of static transformers.-A voltage-regulator for an alternating- current system comprises an induction regulator having its inducing and induced windings connected as an auto-transformer with substantially the same number of turns in both windings, a series transformer having its primary winding connected to the terminals of the regulator and its secondary winding in series with the circuit to be regulated, and switching means adapted to reverse the connections of the primary winding of the transformer to the regulator. Means are also provided to short-circuit the primary winding of the transformer during the operation of the reversing-switch. The primary winding 3, Fig. 1, of an induction regulator 2 is connected to the system 1 through a transformer 5 and a switch 6, and the induced winding 4 is connected to a series transformer 7 through a reversing- switch 8. The switch 8 and short-circuiting switch 9 are interlocked. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, a three-phase induction regulator 11 is connected to a series transformer 15 by means of a reversing-switch 16, and switches 17, 18 are provided to short-circuit the opposite ends of the primary windings of the transformer 15.
