Abstract
190,542. British Power Railway Signal Co., Ltd., Tinsley, H., and Gall, D. C., (trading as Tinsley & Co., H.). Sept. 23, 1921. Transformers.- A transformer for producing constant alternating current from a single-phase supply of constant potential comprises two sets of primary windings 1, 2, carrying currents differing in phase, the secondary winding 5 being so wound within the region surrounded by the primary windings that it is cut by the magnetic fluxes of all the primary windings in such proportions that the secondary current is in quadrature with the primary potential. A secondary current which will remain constant for large variations in the load, and which is particularly adapted to supply current to the track circuit in a railway signalling system, is thereby obtained. The phase difference between the currents in the two sets of prim. ary windings may be obtained by inserting a condenser 3 in series with one set of windings 2.
