Abstract

Exciting. - A shunt or lightly compounded dynamo for electric are welding or for producing alternating-currents cf low frequency is connected in series with the primary F of a transformer the secondary winding G of which is arranged to react on the field circuit so that a rise of current in the main circuit tends to reduce the main flux. The secondary reaction is adjusted in a welding set so that it cannot completely overcome the main field with strong changes of primary current, but for the production of alternating current the secondary reaction is adjusted to reverse the dynamo field. The secondary winding G of the transformer mav be, connected in series with the shunt winding B, or it may be connected to a separate field winding. In order that the voltage of the dynamo may pick up quickly after a short-circuit, the dynamo may be provided with a few turns of a series winding, or the brushes may be rocked back from the neutral position.
