764,900. Transformers. KRATH, A. Dec. 20, 1954, No. 36787/54. Class 38 (2). A variable reactance transformer has a magnetic core 1 on which are wound a secondary winding 10 and a number of coils 2 ... 9, these latter coils being placed in such positions on the core that all the coils have different reactances, a primary winding being provided by connecting in series either coil 2 or 3 with any three of coils 4 ... 9, thereby providing a transformer which has a constant no-load voltage but a different reactance for every combination of the coils. The transformer is especially useful in arcwelding and may be provided with a magnetic shunt 11 to increase the magnetic -leakage at full load.
