Abstract
830,202. Supply circuits for space discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1958 [Nov. 20, 1957], No. 36136/57. Class 38 (4). An operating circuit for a discharge lamp 12 comprises a ballast including a capacitor 3 and an inductor 4 serially connected between a supply terminal 1 and a lamp terminal 5; the ballast being mainly capacitive at the supply frequency, and a saturable inductor 10 connected between the lamp terminal 5 and a point 11 which is at a potential intermediate the potentials of the supply terminals 1, 2, which point 11 in the present embodiment is a tapping on the primary winding of the transformer for the lamp heater electrodes. Such a circuit arrangement increases the efficiency of the lamp operation by reducing the value of the peak factor of the lamp current waveform.
