Abstract
634,355. Supply systems for space discharge lamps. EKCO-ENSIGN ELECTRIC, Ltd., and STICKLEY, W. A. Dec. 3, 1947, No. 31876. [Class 38 (iv)] In a discharge lamp circuit comprising a ballast choke Ll and a condenser C for power factor improvement, the condenser is connected between the choke L<1> and the lamp F, with a further choke L<2> connected between the function of the choke Ll and condenser, and that supply lead connected direct to the lamp so that the lamp. current is maintained substantially constant with mains voltage fluctuations up to about 10 per cent, and at a satisfactory power factor. The usual thermal starting switch S connected with the filamentary electrodes of the lamp may be replaced by a high impedance saturable choke to provide a suitable starting voltage. Suitable circuit constants are given.
