Abstract

626,951. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., ISAACS, G. G., and NELSON, E. H. June 17, 1946, No. 18137. [Class 39 (i)] A H.P.M.V. lamp is constructed with an arc length lying between the limits indicated for particular wattage in Fig. 2, and a quantity of mercury within the envelope giving a voltage per cm. of arc length which is not less than 20 for wattage greater than 2000 and not less than 30 for wattage less than 2000, the efficiency minimum being indicated in Fig. 1, i.e. usually greater than 60 lumens per watt. The electrodes are of tungsten and the envelope of quartz and there may be an outer envelope of glass where there is no artificial gas cooling. The lamp contains mercury and argon and has a tapered cathode surrounded by a starting helix. Specification 493,360 is referred to.
