Abstract
667,670. Discharge lamps. LEHMANN, F. Nov. 15, 1948 [Nov. 27, 1947], No. 29690/48. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (i). In a low-pressure gas-filled arc discharge lamp for operation on low voltages, more particularly a fluorescent lamp, the two electrodes each comprise an activated element adapted to be heated by the discharge and to form a cathode, and an element adapted to remain cold during the discharge and to form an anode, both elements being connected to a single contact plug. The cathode element may be an activated wire helix connected to two lead-in wires and the anode element a metal hood connected to a third lead-in wire, or the cathode element may be a spirally wound wire connected to a single lead-in wire. Alternatively, the anode may be in the form of wire wings connected to the ends of a helical cathode. The construction enables the lamp to be supported in two single-point sockets, or in the case of a " circular " lamp in one two-point socket. A suitable filling comprises argon and mercury vapour at a pressure of about 1 mm. of mercury.
