Abstract

1424447 Gas discharge lamps GTE SYLVANIA Inc 12 June 1973 [28 June 1972] 28008/73 Heading H1D A high pressure sodium vapour discharge lamp comprises a glass envelope 1, an alumina arc tube 8 having electrodes 13, 14 and filled with sodium, mercury and argon or xenon, a heater comprising a coiled coil tungsten wire 20 wound on an alumina rod 21 and a wire loop 28 surrounding the arc tube 8 near electrode 14 and connected to the remote end of the heater wire. A thermal switch 22 disconnects the heater after a certain temperature has been attained. Further loops 28 may be provided at the centre and other end of the arc tube. The heater and the loops 28 together act as starting means for the lamp.
