Abstract

587,660. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., and STEPHENS, G. O. Nov. 15, 1945, No. 30611. - [Class 38 (iv)] In a circuit for an electric discharge lamp 1, a resistance ballast comprising an incandescent lamp 4 of a rating consistent with the running voltage of the discharge lamp is connected in series with filamentary electrodes 2, 3 and a starting circuit comprising a resistance 5 and switch 6 of known type, whereby the said resistance protects the lamp 4 against excessive current during starting of the discharge lamp. A choke 7 may be included to assist starting and the arrangement is suitable for A.C. or D.C. operation. The resistance 5 may also be an incandescent lamp.
