Abstract

654,292. Supply systems for space discharge lamps. REICHINSTEIN, D. Nov. 11, 1943, No. 18797. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 17, 1944.] [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A discharge lamp of the kind in which the light comes from the incandescence of the main electrodes 36, 37 and not from the ionized gas is provided with either a heating winding or a heated auxiliary electrode 38 (see Group XL (a)) which is heated during starting by a small section 21 of the secondary transformer winding. Primary winding 19 and secondary windings 20, 21 are connected in series and supply the running voltage for the main electrodes. To start, switches 27, 28, 29, 30 are closed. 31 is a press-button closing momentarily the heating circuit through auxiliary electrode 38. A discharge starts between 38 and 36 and continues through switch 30 when press-button 31 is released. When the main arc is started switch 30 is opened and the auxiliary arc goes out.
