Abstract

534,004. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1939, No. 32405. Convention date, Dec. 20, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] In an electric discharge lamp 1 wherein at least one electrode is preheated for starting, this electrode 2 is connected at one end to the source 4 through the winding 9 of a reactance and at the other end to the other electrode 3 through additional turns 15 of the reactance ; with a condenser 8 in series with the reactance the turns 9, 15 are additive but without a condenser these turns are opposed. A thermal switch is included in the circuit; this comprises a bimetallic switch 13 with a heating resistance 12. The added turns 15 provide for greater heating of the electrode 2. An electromagnetic switch may be used instead of the thermal switch. The lamp may have a coating of fluorescent material.
