Abstract
639,441. Supply systems for discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 12, 1948, No. 7590. Convention date, March 12, 1947. [Class 38 (iv)] Each of the filamentary electrodes of a discharge lamp 1 is heated from a separate autotransformer 8, 9 and the primary windings of the transformers are connected in series through the starting switch 16. The transformer ratio is two to one, and when the starting switch is open and the lamp running the ends of each filament are at equal potentials so that the tendency of the discharge to cause local hot spots on the filaments is reduced and lamp life extended. Both transformers may have the same core.
