Abstract

602,858. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and NOBLE, S. H. April 17, 1946, No. 11868. [Class 38 (iv)] A circuit for an electric discharge lamp 10 comprises a filament heating transformer 15 having a primary 16 in series with a choke 17 across a mains supply 18, 19, secondary windings 13, 14 feeding filaments 11, 12 of the lamp. Connection may be provided between the primary and one leg of each of the lamp filaments and a starter circuit connected between the said legs. The starter circuit comprises a thermal glow switch 25 and resistor 24 in series, the resistor being preferably one capable of withstanding full mains voltage, and may be a tungsten filament lamp. The starter circuit may be provided as a " standby " in cases where the lamp is arranged normally to operate without it.
