Abstract

1284603 Supply circuits for discharge lamps TRANSTAR LTD 4 May 1970 [15 May 1969] 24871/69 Heading H2H [Also in Division G3] A control unit 3, for a hot cathode discharge lamp 1 and a thyristor dimming device 4, comprises a transformer 7 having a pair of secondary windings 8 and a choke 6 having at least one secondary winding 16 connected so that the variations in the voltages across the transformer secondary windings, due to the variations in the input voltage to the control unit caused by the dimming device, are reduced. The voltage developed across the winding 16 opposes that across the transformer primary winding 15 to an extent that reduces as the input to the circuit 3 decreases. Hence the variations in the transformer primary voltage are reduced so that the variations in the voltages across the secondary windings 8, which supply filaments 9, are reduced. In a modification the winding 16 is divided into two windings, the voltages across which oppose the voltages across the transformer secondary windings to reduce the variations in the filament supply voltages.
