Abstract

523,123. Electricity supply for discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent- Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gluhlampen). Dec. 23, 1938, No. 37468. Addition to 511,199. [Class 38 (iv)] Relates to a supply circuit for a mercury vapour discharge tube combined with a filament lamp to improve the luminous efficiency wherein a reactive impedance is used in series with both the filament and the discharge as described in the parent Specification. This arrangement is modified by (1) the introduction of a second reactive element, for example, the condenser 5, Fig. 1, shunted across the discharge lamp 1 and the first reactive element 2 (an inductance) in series, but not across the filament 3, the first and second reactive elements being of opposite kinds and (2) by a new choice of the dimensions of the filament so that, in full operation, the voltage drop across it and the amount of light it yields are the same in the modified as in the unmodified combination.
