[Classes 36 and 38 (i)] A sealing end for an impregnated cable comprises a tubular insulator 2, sealed at its lower end to the cable sheath, the upper part of which is closed by an inner member 1 having a central stem 3 to which the cable conductor 7 is connected, the upper end of the stem 3 being connected to an outer closure member 9 which is filled with a sealing compound. The stem 3, which passes through or is integral with the plate 1, has a head 4 which is connected to the conductor 7 by flexible conductors 5. The stem 3 passes through the upper part 8 of the outer closure member 9, said part 8 being secured to a lower part 11 with an intermediate gasket 10. The part 11 is cemented to the insulator 2 at 12. Above the plate 1 is a second plate 14 which is a loose fit on stem 3, and between plates 1 and 14 is a neoprene ring 15 which is a sliding fit in the insulator 3. A slotted tube 16 surrounds the stem 3, so that the ring 15 may be compressed. The outer closure member is then filled with sealing compound and the filling hole 20 plugged. The exposed end of the stem 3 may be enclosed in a cap 23. In an alternative arrangement a cemented joint may be made between the internal closure member and the internal surface of the insulator, and connection between the stem and outer closure member is made by a wheel-like device, the spokes of which radiate from the stem to the joint between the upper and lower portions of the outer closure member.
