Abstract

545,692. Mechanical couplings for cable sheathing or covering. GILLARD, F. G., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Nov. 28, 1940, No. 10894/41. Divided out of 547,521. [Class 38 (i)] A coupling having contacts mounted in an insulating block and cables leading to the contacts has a housing enclosing the block and provided with a sleeve that encircles the cables which are wedged in the sleeve by a spreading member passing through its wall. The sleeve 12 of the housing 10 overlaps the sheath 17 and has wedges 15 passed through slots in its wall between the cables 11. If the cables do not fill the sheath sufficiently to be gripped by the wedges packing pieces 16 are inserted. These may be made of the resilient material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Langite." If the sheath 17 does not fill the sleeve 12 the space is filled by a tubular insert. A rubber sleeve 18 covers the joint between the sleeve 12 and sheath 17.
