Abstract

678,236. Sleeve couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 2, 1951 [March 8, 1950], No. 5856/50. Class 38 (i). A water-tight barrier joint for air-spaced, coaxial-conductor cables 1, 2 is formed by cutting back the outer conductor 5, 6 and sweating on to the ends thereof recessed copper collars 12, 13 which receive soft hydraulic-type cup-shaped rubber washers 18, 19 embracing the inner conductors 3, 4. Hard rubber discs 22, 23 are pressed into the washers 18, 19. The inner conductors 3, 4 are joined at 9 by a metal ferrule 10 and the joint is completed by soldering a sleeve 24 to the collars 12, 13.
