Abstract

684,713. Cable joints. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 3, 1951 [Aug. 9, 1950], No. 19814/50. Class 38 (i). A mechanical joint between two multi-conductor polytheneinsulated cables 2 in which the conductors 1 are separately insulated, comprises a metal sleeve 6 provided at each end with a union 10 enclosing metal washers 7, 9, and a rubber washer 8. A plug 11 is screwed into the union 10 to compress the washer 8 and make a watertight seal between the polythene cable sheath 13 and the end of the sleeve 6. The end of the plug 11 is formed as a split collet over which a nut 12 is screwed to grip the sheath 13. Molten polythene may be extruded into the sleeve 6 through a filling plug.
