Abstract

684,271. Two-part couplings. BRITISH JEFFREY-DIAMOND, Ltd., PEARSON, D., and CARTER, H. J. May 8, 1951 [June 9, 1950], No. 14475/50. Class 38 (i). A flame-proof plug comprises a main sleeve 1 enclosing at its outer end an insulator 2, carrying resilient socket contacts 3, and being. in threaded engagement at its inner end with one end of a nut 15 surrounding the outer sheath of a cable 22. Located within the inner end of sleeve 1 is a pair of rings 10, 11 having mating conical surfaces for gripping the cable armouring 12, ring 10 also having an earthing ring 13 screwed thereto, the earth core and/or the screen or screens of the cable being clamped between rings 10, 13. The outer end of nut 15 encloses a rubber ring 18 and a surrounding clamping ring 19, which is caused to compress the rubber ring by a nut 20 screwing on to nut 15, and in turn receiving at its outer end a split grip 21a forced into engagement with the cable sheath by a further nut 23 screwing into nut 20. Distance rings 9, 17 are arranged between insulator 2 and ring 10, and between ring 11 and ring 18, respectively.
