Abstract

1,014,328. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Aug. 26, 1964 [Sept. 11, 1963], No. 34851/64. Heading H2E. A coaxial electrical connector comprises two similar meeting members each including an outer conductive sleeve 82, 22 and an inner contact 98, 60, the outer sleeve having a cylindrical rear extension 86, 24 for connection to the outer conductor of a coaxial cable by being fitted between the outer conductor 12 and the cable dielectric 16, and being clamped in position by a frusto-conical locking ring 110, 72. The central contact of one member is a resilient tubular socket 60 with a reduced end portion which screws into a tapped hole in the cable central conductor, and the other a pin having a similar screw-threaded reduced portion, a wider portion 104 and a forward portion 106. The pin and socket are each surrounded by an air gap and a dielectric insert 96 and 56. The two members are held together by a screwed ring 44 which compresses a seal 78 and makes the enclosure water-tight. The central contacts may alternatively be screwed on to the central conductor or crimped thereon. Finger grips may be provided on the ring 44 and flange 82.
