Abstract

1285548 Two-part couplings RADIALL 20 Aug 1970 [1 Oct 1969] 40195/70 Heading H2E A two-part coupling comprises parts 1, 2 both being solids of revolution about the axis X-X and comprising, e.g. coaxial conductors 3 and 4, 7 and 8 separated by insulation 5 and 9 respectively, the conductor 8 having an annular resilient contact 10 formed with a flange 11 which engages a groove 6 in the conductor 4 when the parts are mated to effect both mechanical and electrical connection, the flange being lockable in the groove by means of an insulating sleeve 13 slidable on the part 2 to a locked position in which a ridge 14 on the inner surface of the sleeve is located around the flange and prevents it from being withdrawn from the groove. The contact 10 has axially extending slits and may be made from beryllium copper. The conductor 3 is formed with a plug 3a which engages a socket 7a on the conductor 7, and the insulation 9 has a plugshaped extremity to mate with a socket shaped end of the insulation 5. The sleeve 13 is held in a locked or unlocked position by means of an expandable ring 16 housed in a groove 15 in the sleeve engaging a groove 17 or a groove 18 in the conductor 8.
