Abstract

1,140,749. Coaxial connectors. AMP Inc. 19 Aug., 1966 [1 Sept., 1965], No. 37228/66. Heading H2E. In a coaxial connector comprising a central contact 30 spaced from an outer conducting shell 22 by a resilient insulating insert 24, a rib 30d and barbs 22g on the contact 30 and inner surface of an extension 22b of shell 22 respectively bite into the insert 24 and the inner insulation of a coaxial cable which is secured to the connector. The contact 30 is crimped around the cable core, and the shell extension 22b externally receives the outer conducting braid of the cable and a ferrule 32 which is crimped around it and carries a sealing ring 34 engaging the cable outer insulation. The central contact 30 may be a rigid pin, as shown, a resilient outer contact pin being secured by a flange 25 to the shell 22, or alternatively it may be a resilient socket (50, Fig. 3, not shown) surrounded by a rigid socket contact which is secured in an externally screw-threaded outer shell. An internally screwthreaded ring is secured to the shell 22.
