Abstract

950,403. Two-part couplings; mechanical couplings for cables and coverings. AMPHENOL-BERG ELECTRONICS CORPORATION. Nov. 16, 1962 [Nov. 16, 1961], No. 43496/62. Heading H2E. In a coaxial cable connector the outer cable insulation 26 is gripped by a slotted ferrule 27 which is compressed when the portion 37 of an external shell 11 is deformed by crimping so that a recess 34 engages a ridge 33 on the ferrule. During the crimping action the inner ferrule traps the portion 25b of braid wire 25 between outer and inner shells and forces it forward to squeeze the radial portions of the braid wire 25a between the ferrule front end 28 and a conductive wall 19, thus achieving good electrical contact. The central conductor of the coaxial cable is soldered to an inner conductor 17 having an outer radial tooth 18 which bites into a surrounding insulator 16 itself retained by a tooth on conductor 15. The cable insulation 24 is cut so that on passing it through the aperture in the wall 19 of conductor member 15 it butts up against conductor 17 and the outer insulation 26 is cut so that it aligns with end 28 of inner ferrule 27.
